The cool breeze off Lake Michigan has a way of convincing you to slow down. For a moment, it makes you forget about emails, deadlines, and everything waiting back home. Then reality creeps back in. Sitting here, I know I have a mountain of work waiting for me—but for just a little while, I'm choosing vacation. The Hotel Frankfort has become one of Frankfort's signature dining destinations serving brunch, with the only street facing full patio, and seafood forward dinner menu that full circles a perfect day in this quaint port shore town.
The People
The memory of watching Cheers and the song "Where everyone knows your name" is the secret sauce to this spot. Joel, Julie, and Janice (all J's—I couldn't help but notice) are the first people to welcome you through the door. Making sure to connect individually to things going on in my world and delivering a seamless dining experience is their work of art. Notably, the level of hospitality gains my attention with the simple ability of genuine interest in what "plan(s)" are set for the day and providing honest true advice about what to go and do around Frankfort.
What To Order
Picture this - crab cakes on everything. As an Eggs Benedict breakfast, a snack before dinner or as the main course to your evening. Paired with the house-made lemon-dill remoulade, and it's hard to imagine they could be any better. Considering how far Frankfort is from the ocean, the crab cakes and New England clam chowder are surprisingly authentic and delicious beyond explanation. The Walleye is the popular choice on most menus locally but The Hotel Frankfort knocks it out of the park being exceptionally seared and seasoned without missing the mark. I'm sure the Hanger Steak or their Ribeye with bacon-apple jam tastes top tier but I have those added for my next drive over.
The Atmosphere
Lake Michigan is just steps away, visible from the patio on Main Street. Joel's lime-garnished margarita was the perfect companion for a summer afternoon. Happy Hour runs from 2–5 p.m. every day except Wednesday, when the restaurant is closed. Red, white, and blue decor was enjoyably placed throughout the property for The United States 250th celebration, sounds perfectly hitting classics from almost every age of music. Your nose always senses the fresh made baguettes and the hints of citrus keep you ready to consume something delicious.
Overall, The Hotel Frankfort provides a couple specifically unique things that have not been found anywhere in this port city town. What sets The Hotel Frankfort apart isn't just the food—it's the people. They remember you, ask about your day, and genuinely want you to enjoy your time in Frankfort. I cannot thank Julie, Joel, and Janice more for making me feel like I was sitting at home enjoying a meal. Flavor has to be the next significant mark because nothing is bland, never missing seasoning, and tastes so fresh it almost becomes shocking.
One thing you'll learn about me is that I judge a restaurant by two things: the people and the consistency. Great food gets me in the door. Great hospitality brings me back. Their quaint ambiance is paired perfectly with big flavors, loving personalities, and seafood options that make this renowned essential to the Port City, always Worth The Drive.
